Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. Volunteering at the garden is a great way to give back to your community, meet new people, and share you love of outdoors with others. Volunteers must be a minimum of 14 years old, and accompanied by a guardian if younger than 16.

For Court-appointed community service hours:

  • You must attend an on-site orientation, no registration required (just show up)
  • Orientations are held weekly at 1 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at our Maintenance Compound (3222 Old Garden Road, Fort Worth, TX 76107)
  • Orientations are approximately 30 minutes
  •  Please bring court documents

Volunteering Opportunities:

Due to minimal staffing on weekends most volunteer opportunities are on weekdays between 8 am - 4 pm.

Group Service Projects: Schedule your corporate group, youth club, or service organization, etc. and assist with a one day gardening project or Garden event. Most group projects take place Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:30 pm.  Schedule your group by emailing Larinda.Smith@fortworthtexas.gov. Please include the number of participants, your estimated date, and how long you would like to stay.

Gardening: Get your hands dirty in one of our 23 specialty gardens! This opportunity includes pruning, watering, weeding, mulching, and the occasional planting of new plants.

Administration: This is a great opportunity for those who enjoy a desk more than digging in the dirt. This position includes computer work, greeting visitors, answering phones, and paperwork.

Special Events: This is a available for long-term or short-term volunteers. Assist with crowd monitoring or crafts at the fall or spring Japanese Garden Festivals. Also get involved spring and fall Plant Sales.

Education: Do you enjoy working with kids? Help teach in our school education programs or assist during one of our Green Thumb Club activities.

Gift Shop Associate: Meet visitors from around the world as you help them find that special memento. Assist with inventory and display new items.

Weekend Crew: Want to volunteer, but only have weekends free? The weekend crew meets for two hours on the first and third Saturday of every month.

Student Volunteers: If you need to complete volunteer hours for school credit, we have a minimum requirement of 8 volunteer hours. These hours can be earned over multiple days. However, please be aware there are minimal weekend volunteer opportunities and no after-school opportunities.

Family Opportunities: We encourage families with kids under 14 to participate in our Family Discovery programs. This once a month opportunity is held on a weekday in our Backyard Vegetable Garden.
